FAQs

How can I schedule an appointment?
You can schedule an initial appointment through our contact page or via email. You can learn more about each of our clinicians here.
What do I need to do before my first session?
You should complete the informed consent and intake form that your therapist emails to you before your first session together. By completing these documents beforehand, your therapist is able to prepare for your meeting.
What will my first session be like?
During your initial session, you and your therapist will discuss what brought you to counseling, your strengths and challenges, and your background. You will begin to explore your goals for therapy together. At the end of the appointment, your therapist will schedule your next session.
How long are sessions?
Sessions are 50 minutes long. Your therapist uses the remaining ten minutes of the hour for documentation, scheduling, and billing.
How long should I plan to be in therapy for?
We understand that each client has individual needs. While research has found that most improvement is usually gained from 10-20 therapy sessions, some clients continue to improve beyond this point. Others prefer to continue therapy for maintenance of achieved goals, or to work on new goals. Together, you and your therapist will plan an effective treatment length.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you miss your session or cancel less than 24 hours beforehand, you will be charged your therapist’s full rate. We are unable to fill open session times within short timeframes.
Do you accept insurance?
We do not accept insurance. All of our therapists are out-of-network providers. There are several reasons why some therapists choose not to accept insurance. Here are a few of the most common factors:
-
Low Reimbursement Rates
Insurance companies regularly reimburse therapists at significantly lower rates than their standard fees. This can make it challenging for therapists to run a financially sustainable practice, especially when considering the time and effort they put into each session.
-
Administrative Burden
Dealing with insurance companies involves a lot of paperwork, phone calls, and time-consuming tasks like filing claims and verifying coverage. Many therapists prefer to focus on client care rather than administrative tasks, which can detract from their practice.
-
Delayed Payments
Insurance companies sometimes take a long time to process claims and reimburse therapists. This uncertainty can make managing finances more difficult for private practitioners who rely on timely payments to sustain their business.
-
Loss of Autonomy
Insurance companies may impose limits on the type and length of therapy sessions or require specific diagnoses to justify treatment. Therapists may feel that these restrictions interfere with providing the best care for their clients, limiting their ability to create individualized treatment plans.
-
Flexibility in Treatment
Insurance plans often limit the number of sessions a client can have or may not cover certain types of therapy. Therapists who don't accept insurance have the freedom to offer more flexible treatment options without these restrictions.
Do you provide superbills?
Yes, your therapist is able to supply you with a superbill at your request. A superbill is an itemized receipt of services rendered, which you can submit to your insurance provider as an out-of-network claim. Since your out-of-network benefits may be different from your in-network benefits, the amount you are reimbursed depends on your specific insurance policy. If you are interested in taking this route, we recommend calling your insurance provider for additional details.
What are your hours?
Each therapist in our practice sets their own schedule, so we do not have specific hours of operation. You and your therapist will find a session time that works for both of your schedules.
